The Water Tower and Friedrichsplatz
back to overview
The water tower is another of Mannheim’s main symbols, and has been for more than one hundred years. It was completed in 1889. The architect was a young man from Stuttgart, Gustav Halmhuber, who also had a hand in the construction of the Berlin Reichstag. The water tower was built in the course of Mannheim’s expansion to the east, as the centre piece of the drinking water system.
